Hey Hey Guys!

So taper time is finally upon us! FINALLY! This means that I can't do a whole lot so I have been doing a lot of tv, movie, and dvd watching. I am now through season 3 of Sex and the City. My friend Kailey and I have been hooked on them. The Sex and the City movie was very well done and I suggest everyone go see it (well, mainly girls haha). Recently, I purchased a new condo. I haven't moved in yet because I dont want to change my routine too much before trials but I have been just hanging out there a lot. I have a really nice big soft couch and a 46 inch plasma screen tv. It is really convenient to just go there to chill and be away from parents. I have gotten a taste of independent life and I can't wait to move in after the summer! I have decided to stay here and attend Loyola College. I am just starting out with one journalism class and then I'll take half a load in the second semester.
Other than that, I am getting anxious/ excited for trials. I got to swim in the pool at the Omaha swimvitational. It was a good experience to kind of test run everything. The pool is very nice and I can't wait until the stands are packed. I love feeding off that energy when I am racing. Well, maybe I should go take a nap. :-)
Talk to you all later,
KT

Swimming & Movies

What's up everyone? Let's see...last time we left off I was coming back from NYC. My next meet was Missouri. I was very pleased with my swims at this meet. I got best times in all my free events and was very close in my IM's. It was nice to see all my work on my freestyle stroke pay off! This meet was the first time that any athlete got to race in the new LZR racer. I really liked the way the suit fit...well, haha after I figured out how to inch up enough material so that the top half of me didn't feel like it was being exposed when I dove in. haha don’t worry I figured it out very quickly after my first race. After I got back from Missouri, we got right back into heavy training I swam one day at our MD state meet. I just swam the mile. It was definitely a no pressure race since I hadn't swum it since I was 13! My coach had to make up a time so that I could swim in the final. haha. I was very surprised to break the AR in this. Swimming relaxed always seems to help. Now for some non-swimming news...I went to see Horton Hears a Who this weekend. And for any of you snobs who maybe think that because its rated G it won't be any good, you are very wrong! It has the voices of Steve Carell and Jim Carey and I thought it was very funny, light, and well done. Sometimes I just like going to movies like that because they aren't heavy or scary or anything that makes me upset or serious. I needed to laugh this weekend and this movie was perfect. Well, off to another practice...this week is going to be high in yardage so I'd better get some rest! For those of you going to the OhioState grand prix, I look forward to seeing everybody there! Till next time, Kt

February in NYC

So as I type this I am in a car driving to Penn Station in NYC to take a train back to Baltimore. I have been in New York since yesterday. Yesterday, I got to do a photo shoot for Omega. It was my first one with them so it was a really neat experience. I also found the watch that I want to order from them. It is so gorgeous with a pure white band and diamonds around the face of the watch. We shot in the Speedo FS pro in the boy’s locker room of this college in the Bronx. It made me feel slightly like I was in a fish bowl because a lot of the boys were watching me take pictures. Haha. Michael and I were there from about 3 to 10 so it was a pretty long day but we still had some fun. I really liked the people who work with Omega.
Today, it was all about promoting Speedo's new LZR Racer suit. In the morning, seven of us got to make an appearance on the Today show in the suits. That was a lotta fun! After that we all went to this studio called Espace to put on a theatrical show and presentation for the new suit. It was an amazing production. There were holograms, spotlights, and a lot of media and people. I am so excited to race in the new suit this weekend in Missouri!!
Well, gotta catch my train! Catch ya laterrr.

Update
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Jan 14, 2008 - 09:50 AM
Goodness..a lot has happened since I last checked in! The most recent is a training trip to Colorado Springs and Christmas. So I will talk about those...Christmas first!
Christmas was very relaxing and my favorite gift was probably all four seasons (92 episodes) of the OC! yeaa I know pretty exciting. OC is my go-to show when I want to block out anything else going on in my life. If there is drama going on in my own life, it always pales in comparison to the drama that is going on in the OC. haha I know it sounds weird but it really works for me. I swear I tear up every episode. haha what a dork.
Anyyyways. I just got home from a two week training trip at the Olympic Training Center. It was definitely a tough couple of weeks but I think our small group of 5 swam really well all the way through. We took three girls ( including myself) and two guys. I was lucky enough to get my own room because I started out with all three of us in one tiny dorm room. That could have been disastrous through a two week span. haha. Overall, we all got along fairly well. On the last night, my coach Paul took us out to Denver for dinner and shopping. It was a very fun way to cap off the trip and nice to get out of what feels like a jail of monotony sometimes.
Now I am back to home sweet home and we are training hard until we swim at the Missouri Grand Prix. I haven't had a meet since our Christmas Classic ( which was scy) so it will be a good meet to swim lcm again. Until then, everyone stay healthy and have fun!

Thanksgiving and Golden Goggles!
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Nov 29, 2007 - 11:56 AM
Heyyy there everyone!! I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. I know I did! I tried not to eat too much but I figured one day of a little less self control wouldn't hurt. haha I stayed home for thanksgiving. It was just me, my mom and dad, my brother, and my gramma. It was nice to have everyone together for once because in the past years we have been split up. My parents usually take turns taking my brother to see other family. Thanksgiving was definitely game day in our house. I started out by playing my brother in risk..wait I'm sorry I should say I started out by dominating my brother in risk. :-) haha yeah I am a sore winner as much as I am a sore loser in board games. I have the experience of getting destroyed by older kids in past years so he can deal with it! Later that night after a deeeelish dinner, my whole family played fictionary and pictionary. For pictionary, it was girls against the guys. Of course, the girls took the win. Regardless of who won, it was a lot of fun to actually spend good quality time with my family.
But hey let me skip back to the Golden Goggles! I had such a blast!! The entertainment was great, seeing all my friends is always so exciting, and I was very shocked to receive an award. When my name was called I sat there for a second with my mouth open. I had not planned on winning at all. I didn't even have a speech prepared! As I was walking up, I was thinking "oh god, oh god" think of something to say! I ended up kind of forming some type of sentences. haha I did forget to thank who I really wanted to though. I really wanted to thank my coach Paul who is probably the main reason why I did so well in 2007. He is the best coach any athlete could ask for and I dont know what I'd do without him. As soon as I walked off stage, I was like danget! I completely forgot to thank Paul. It taught me a lesson to be prepared no matter what. I was so flustered and shocked going up there. All the same, I had a great time and the Bejing theme of it all got me really excited!
Ok well, I am off to get a practice snack before practice. We are starting to taper down. As Ryan would say, GYEA GYEA!!! haha Cya later, Kt

Golden Goggles preview
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Nov 20, 2007 - 10:00 AM
Hey heyyy everybody!
So let's see...First off, I am super excited for the Golden Goggle Awards this Sunday! I leave Saturday afternoon and come back Monday night on a redeye because a lot of the Speedo swimmers have a photo shoot all day Monday. This will be my 4th Golden Goggles believe it or not and I always have a blast. I am wearing this really pretty purple dress this time. I have been looking for a cute purple dress to wear forever and I finally found one!
As far as swimming goes, it is going pretty well. We have gone up in yardage and I am already feelin it! I knew this week was gonna be tough when I experienced a very tough short rest im/free kick set to start off the week on Monday morning. I used to be horrible at short rest stuff and would always die hard core. I think I am getting better at being able to still swim pretty fast off of not much rest...so that's good!
So, an update on the dance class! It has been moved to 8 on Wednesday nights. I have been having sooo much fun! We are doing this really upbeat and high energy dance to this Fergie song. I love my teacher. She is so cool and has a really good sense of humor. There are about 4 other girls in my class and I am really getting to know this class better than the last. I suggest to everyone out there that they do some activity that they love along with their swimming. If you have the time, it is so worth it. I could be so tired from swimming or in the worst mood but once I step into that dance room, all of my troubles seem to melt away for an hour straight.
I am off to dinner and then maybe an episode of the OC. SO sad that the show ended btw!
Hope everyone is doing well!
Talk to you soon.

Hey there!!
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Oct 28, 2007 - 09:18 AM
So I just returned from the Women's Sports Foundation Awards in New York. This was my third time attending the event and I think that I had the best time this year. One of the coolest things that happened was getting to meet (my sponsor) Playtex Sport's team player of the year. I had a hand in selecting the winner so getting to see her all dressed up and looking beautiful was pretty special! Her name is Dawn and she really is an inspiration to girls all over. She is quite the go getter! Dawn is involved in helping with so many sports programs for young girls. I can't believe how much she has given of yourself for others! It felt really good to present her with a huge 25,000 check for college (you should be able to see a pic of this in my pictures!).
I love the environment and energy that this event provides. You see so many legendary athletes from all different sports and who are all different ages. These women come together to celebrate women in sports. I really feel like it is such a great thing that the foundation does to provide the opportunity to be active in sports. I hate to hear that there are girls out there that don't want to play sports because they feel like they have to be some sex object or having muscles makes them unattractive to guys. Girls should go out there and have fun. Sports gives so many girls such great self confidence and I couldn't imagine what I'd do without it in my life.
Marissa (my athlete manager) and I had a blast catching up. We always have a great time talking, laughing, and joking around. We both sat at Playtex Sport's table for the dinner. They are such a great group of people and were very generous to pay for me to go to this really high scale salon for hair and make up! I had to change into a robe just to have my hair done! haha I know I thought that was weird too.
So that's been my last couple of days....I always leave these awards feeling so inspired from hearing all these amazing stories of such phenomenal women athletes! I can't wait to go back next year!
Hope everyone is doing well.

Homecoming!
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:

Hey there! So I don't know about you guys but I pretty sore from some hard workouts! I am sure that every athlete in the country right now is dealing with the same sore muscles after all these killer workouts! Stick with it though because all of this pain now will most likely pay off during the Christmas taper meets.
Well, enough of me boring you with the same old swimming talk. I am really excited for this weekend because I am going to do my favorite thing ever! Yes, you guessed it. I am going to my friend's homecoming and we are gonna dance the night away. I know that sounds cheesy but it is very true. I am super psyched because it is hard when you are 18 and can't get into any fun dancing clubs! I will definitely let you guys know how it went. I really hope that the DJ plays some hot new songs!
Well, that is all for now. Everyone have a great weekend!

Racing (out of the pool)
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Sep 20, 2007 - 09:38 AM
Heyy swimroomers! haha. So it's been awhile since I"ve updated you guys about life. Besides getting my butt back into shape and being sore, I actually just did something really cool on Sunday. I took my BMW and went to this autocross race! I know sounds pretty crazy. I should have some footage up from the race in a week or two. So right about now you are probably asking yourself exactly what an autocross race is all about and what I was doing there!
I love going fast and now that I have the car to do it I thought why not give it a shot? When I first go there, it was pretty overwhelming. There were all these guys who had pretty high class porsches, racing tires, and the works. The course cluttered with all these cones that mapped out where each driver was supposed to turn. There were many tight turns and places where you had to weave in and out of the cones. I got four runs and each time I got a little better. Trust me, the first run the announcer made fun of me with, "Isn't there a stroke in swimming called the crawl?" Haha somehow they found out that I was a swimmer. Overall, it was a really neat experience and I think that I am doing it again in October. I also think my coach Paul will be joining me this time. I can't wait!! It is always fun to change things up and do something other than race in the pool. Don't worry I was safe and wore a helmet. :-)
Well, that is all for now. I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of their seasons!

Hey guys!
By:
Katie Hoff

So it's been awhile since I've updated on here. There is lots to talk about! I will start with Nationals. I was really pleased with my swims. I tried out a couple fairly new races for me. I did the 800 free and the 200 bk as my debut events at a summer nationals. I had a lot of fun swimming events with really no pressure and was super psyched for drop 9 secs in my 800 and 3 secs in my 2 bk! It was a great note to end on for the season. After nationals I enjoyed a 5 day vacay in the Bahamas!! But that's another story...
The trip was such a blast because it was my first time out of the country for something other than swimming. I went with one of my friends on the swim team (Kailey Morris). We took advantage of almost everything that the island offered. We went parasailing, swimming with dolphins, dancing, snorkling, jet skiing, and just fun lounging on the beach! My favorite part was probably the dolphins. They are such friendly animals and it was cool getting to touch them and hug them and I even stole a couple kisses from one of them.:-) At the end of the program we got to do this thing called a foot push which is where you lie flat in the water and a dolphin comes from the back and uses its snout to propel you through the water. I wish I could feel that fast when I was swimming!
Well, now I am back in good old Baltimore starting to get back to the normal schedule. We are starting slow so it's not so bad right now. Talk to you all later! I will try to make it sooner this time!

Hey!

Hey hey guys!
I just got back from NYC where I was doing Tv/ Radio interviews for my sponsor Playtex Sport. It was about 3 hrs straight of interviews but it was fun at times. I learned how to read a telepromptor without looking fake and how to look like I was talking to a real person when I was just looking at the blank screen of a camera. haha I was doing interviews to promote Team Playtex Sport's scholarship program. I think what they are doing is great and it will help encourage girls to get into sports. I am excited to get to pick a girl at the end of the year to win 25,000 dollars towards her scholarship.
I got in the night before so I was able to catch my first broadway show. Marissa (my manager) and I went to see Chicago. I loved it! Some of those girls had such perfect bodies. Pssh even though I swim so much I am not even remotely close to having the abs like this one girl. Haha whatever I like ice cream too much to give it up!
Alright well I am off to lunch, I will talk to everyone later. Expect some video "blogs" soon. :-)

Back to reality
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
May 24, 2007 - 06:55 PM
Hey guys! So I can now officially say that I am in the midst of heavy training again. At least that is what my arms and legs are telling me when it hurts to get up from the couch! haha. I just got back from the Eric Namesnik Grand Prix. This meet was my first meet ever to swim morning finals. It was definitely an adjustment but I felt like most of it was in my mind. I would just pretty much try to forget what the clock said and from there it was pretty easy. Once I stepped into that pool it was like time ceased to exist. I had a good time doing some off events like 50 free and some 100's. I definitely still have a ways to go in the sprints but it was a nice change of pace from the 400 IM! I actually had a best time in the 200 back which really pleased me for this time of the season.
As far as life outside of the pool, things have been pretty chill. A lot of my friends from college have come back which is always great. A lot of them are my really good friends so it's been nice catching up. Graduation party season is upon us too so that is what I will be doing for many weekends. It is so sad that another group will be leaving soon. :-(
Hip hop classes are going so well! I look forward so much to every Tuesday night at 8. I pay the price because my legs are already dead from practice but it is SO worth it. We are learning such a hot routine to Baby Boy by Beyonce. I do a showcase in the middle of June. I am inviting all my close friends and family! I feel like I'll be just as nervous for this as a big meet. haha ok maybe not but I'm still going to be nervous.
Well, I'm off to bed! It has been a long week and there are still two more to go. Goodnight!

Home again!
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Apr 27, 2007 - 08:10 AM
So, I am home again! It feels so good to be back and see all my family and friends. I missed everything so much. I even missed my little brother! haha. My family and two of my best friends played a trick on me when I got in. My plane from China arrived pretty late so I thought I wasn't going to be able to see everyone. They all said how sad they were but it was too late and so I would have to see them later. I was SO mad! All I could think was how long a flight I had had and how I really wanted to see all the people who I really cared about! I came storming out of customs with all my luggage and guess who I see waiting for me? My mom, my dad, and my friend Dan, and my best friend Audrey were all standing there with big smiles. I was so surprised and my mouth dropped. They were definitely pretty sneaky to get that one by me. Haha, although I have to admit that I am pretty gullible at times.
As for swimming, I am just getting back into training. This means soreness alllll over! I am actually getting back into shape faster than I thought so that is good. As a cross training activity I am taking a hip hop class every Tuesday! It is SUCH a blast. I think I am going to do a showcase! jeah jeaaaah! I can't wait.
Well, that is all for now. I am off to practice in a bit. Talk to you all laterrr.

Hello everyone!

It's amazing how much easier it is to blog when you don't have a swim meet going on! Today was a really fun day...a lot less hectic than yesterday if you read my previous blog! Michael and I went to the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. We also got to visit the pool that is being built just for the Games. It was really exciting to see where we will be swimming next year. It really gets the adrenaline flowing. The Great Wall was especially a blast. It was a hike to just get up to the lifts! I may be a fit athlete in the water but when it comes to land stuff, I am out of shape! The lifts took us the rest of the way up. That was definitely a scary moment when I went from being on the ground to looking down into a revene going straight down. I have to admit my stomach dropped a bit. I was able to get some awesome pics at the wall though. I will try to post them later.
Tomorrow we leave to go back to Shanghai for two days. Then, we get to go home!!! I really miss my family and friends so I can't wait to get back after a month of being away.
Well, I should go. I have to be downstairs tomorrow to leave for the airport at 6:30 am. Yikes! Not looking forward to that at all!
Alright, bye for now. If I remembered how to say bye in Chinese I would say it here, but I forgot. haha

Ni Hao!
Its been a while since I have written on here everything has been crazy but right now I'm in Beijing doing work with Visa, Speedo and Special Olympics. We have got to do so many cool things so far we toured the Forbidden City and got some fun pictures. We have been to the market twice now and it has been an experience. If you don't give them a price they want then they get very agiated and pull you back. Marissa and I were very scared today.
I'm really excited to be at the special Olympics clinic today. And then after at the Speedo clinic.

Hello from Australia!
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Mar 22, 2007 - 11:19 AM
Hey everyone!
Well, Australia is a pretty cool place. This is my first time here so everything
is new to me. I am finally adjusting to the time change. The first couple
nights were really tough. I passed out around 8 PM the first night
because it felt like the middle of night. Today, we were allowed to get
out of the hotel because we were all going stir crazy being cooped up in this
hotel for so long. We rode to a beach about 20 minutes away. We
only stayed for a bit but I got to take some really pretty pics with a lot of
the team. The view was so beautiful! After that, we went to these
outlet malls where I got this cuuute blue top
from Billabong. Now, I am just chilling in the hotel. Some people
are at the pool but I already took care of my practice this morning. It
was my longest one for the week so I was happy to get it done with. My strokes
are feeling better and better each day. I know I'll be feeling ready to
go by the time the meet rolls around.
Talk to you guys later...or as I should start to say..G'day mate! :-)

my blog
By:
Katie Hoff
Date:
Feb 19, 2007 - 04:11 PM
Hey everyone!
So I am really psyched to be writing my first blog for SwimRoom.com. This website is going to be amazing and I can't wait to get started. My life has been pretty laid back lately. I've just been training hard and trying to finish up my school work. I am so close to being done with my senior year. I am getting really excited! In my down time, I've been hanging out with my friends. Sometimes we are so tired from practice we just like to chill out on a couch and watch TV. Other times, we will go to the movies or out to dinner.
As far as appearances and events for sponsors, things have been pretty quiet. This is the way I am trying to keep it right now since Worlds is less than 50 days away! The last thing I did was probably for Playtex Sport in New York. I got to walk their pink carpet (yes, I said pink) and help promote their new product. I really love the Playtex family and am really looking forward to working with them.
Oh! I forgot one pretty exciting thing that happened last month. My Gramma made an offer on a house about 3 houses down from mine. Since we moved away from her in Virginia it has been hard for her. We miss her a lot. It will be really great to have her so close now.
Well, that is all for now. I've gotta run and do some English Lit.
